Salaam,
Does anyone know if there is a way that you can find out if someone like your neighbors is using your wireless internet signal?
The thing is that I have been lagging really bad on a game that I never used to lag on, and it just started happening suddenly...can multiple users of your signal even cause lag?
I would appreciate some help.
Thanks
open up ur browser and type in 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 or whatever else thats written in ur routers usermanual. basically u want to log into the router's web admin tool and check all the connections thats connection to ur router.
u can, and u SHOULD either turn on WEP encryption so that only the computers u allow (by providing a wep password) to use the wifi connection, or atleast filter MAC addresses. so that only the computers u know, can connect.
both options are available in the web admin tool.
my bro can pick up my neighbours wireless signal :D i dunno why- it didnt ask him for the wep code
he doesnt use it tho *pats lil bro on the head*

that's dangerous. in some places, its illegal to tag onto someone's wifi connection. there are some people who go around war driving. that is, they go around looking for open connections, and sometimes even break through connections that has low security. some people tag onto others wifi connection and conducts illegal activities at the owners expense. even worse is how soem people have cameras connected to their network, usually the internet surveillence cameras. so these people can basically look through. this was once demonstrated on TheBroken and Systm. So again, dangerous stuff.

I don;t nick any wireless internet signals!!!! :outta:
Using others' wireless signals has JUST come into an amendment of the Computer misuse act... it is a veryyyy verrrrryyy weak part of the legal system and has yet not been tried... it would seriously be very weak!!
To monitor the connection.. belal has told you above..
if your concerned... make sure you put some sort of encryption... WEP/WPA/WPA-PSK...
(although.. if you ask me nicely.. ima tell you how to crack that n all!!! )

when i got my internet at home, the guy who was sorting it all out was showing me how i can nick other ppl's signals :rotfl: .. he told me not to tell any1 and he wasn't surpose to tell me :D
You can normally tell by looking at your modem - shut down your pc and if it's still flickering like mad this means someones having a freebie.
As suggested you need to secure your router. Mines a Belkin unit which has a life time warranty and a free 24hr help line (India) which was quite help full.

that's like my cable guy. a few years back when i cancelled my cable subscribtion for the 2nd time ( this is the 3rd time i got it back), the cable guy was telling me how he knows alot of customers are fed up with cable tv prices, so he is selling the hacked box (black box at the time). here's the guy who is working for the cable company to retrieve cancelled boxes, and he comes telling me he wants to sell me a illegal box to steal cable with all channels lol.

possible.... after all..both her and her neighbor's comp could be in either MSHOME or WORKGROUP, and both have file n printer sharing enabled..and on top of that, since they sharing the same router...its possible.

that's like saying it's okay to go into someone's house through their open window and use their stuff without their consent.
