niqaabi what grade did u get for GCSE maths?

It doesnt matter what she got for GCSE...A Level maths isnt very hard, and as long as you practice, getting an A is easy...

Youre gonna need these books:

http://www.heinemann.co.uk/secondary/series.aspx?n=805&d=v&s=819&skey=921#price%20list

And yeah, like Hafsa said above, the examples in the book are brilliant and should set you up..

Also, you should get the past papers...of which there are only like 2, because iy started in 2005. But there are Solomon papers which you should get. About 13 papers (A-L) altogether for each unit, if you do all of those papers, you shouldnt have a problem..

Compared to A2, AS is a doddle...half of it is GCSE. C1 and C2 are simply practice, if you practice practice practice, there is no reason why you shouldnt get 100/100 for both..

Back in Baba's day, it was way harder...good Qadr.. :)

A Level maths isnt hard if you practice...

Its more a case of..once it clicks, it clicks...if you find it difficult, its because you didnt understand it, and if you didnt understand it, you need to ask more...

And hey, Im here if you need to ask.. :p

all my friends that got A*'s for GCSE maths ended up failing a-level maths, even though they were stil getting A's for their other subjects, i think its a big leap from gcse maths

maths alevel was hardddddd

i thought AS was so much harder than A2 (apart from p3..argh!)

maybe its cos i worked hard in second year?

i got physics books aswell if you want :p

(n.b. they're from the original AS/A2 series...not the new easy peasy one :D )

p.s. i'll have to look for those books...

One thing to remember about AS Maths..Is that GCSE maths&AS maths = BIG FAT JUMP .. its not as easy as you'd think..and apparently an A at GCSE = a D at AS .. (which is believable)..I second anyone who recomended the Heinemman module books, they got really good examples:up:and its not too hard to understand from there.I think CGP sucks for AS,its really really really bad..so dont get it:p

Sorry, but C1 is kinda like GCSE to be honest...the rest is a jump...but not that big. Compared to the jump of Chem and Bio from GCSE to AS...the difference is very small..

:)

C1's quite similar to GCSE yeah but there are a couple bits that were just like .. I didnt find the jump so apparent in Bio and Chem..especially not chemistry, biology yeah maybe because its alot more concentrated..

I think like most subjects, if you practise and pay attention and go to extra classes when you need help you can achieve a good grade.
I know girls that got A* for GCSE maths and are getting the same grade in tests as me if not less and thats not because their dumber then me or im smarter, its just im applying myself more and im more commited to my work then they are.
Also, maths is one of those subjects where if you learn the formula or the method and you can do one example you can do them all just need to practise practise and practise.

LOL the week before last our teacher made us re-do our test cos everyone got Es :embar: i get my re-results back tomorrow so pray for me as i have another test tomorrow as well!
TEH i'll be coming to you when i need help :p

You and a bajillion other people already masha allah..

But yknow, maths is one of those subjects, that you can do a question for about 10 minutes, and then when you get an answer, you just think Subhanaallah, I DID IT..

Like when a builder a builds his house, and then sits back to look at what he has built..

My son has had to do his entire top maths (called specialist maths here) by himself for two years via correspondence. He has his exam on Friday (last exam) and that was what his corro teacher told him.. keep practicing past exams. Just keep practicing. She told him it's easy to learn the technique but you must keep practicing the skill.

God willing, it will have worked with him:)

He had a teacher based about 700km away who phoned him once a week for a phone lesson. She was available to talk to during the week if needed assistance (he would call her) otherwise, he had his book, his study guide and himself.. it is almost a self taught subject and yes he has struggled, but to his credit it's looking reasonably good for a satisfactory pass, but he would have done way better if he had had access to a teacher at school (if there are not enough students wanting to do a finals subject, they enroll them on distance education)

He did physics, chemistry, the second top maths and specialist maths and English as his final years subjects and he also plans to work in computer programming, hence his subject choices.

better still, he didn't need a computer.. he just needed his books and himself.. he sent his assignments in via snail mail and received them back marked. He had a once a week phone lesson and that was it, unless he called his teacher.. lucky yes, but not the best way to study top maths

that's why she said practice practice practice, and in the study guides there are countless practice exams, and on the education website there are past finals exams for download. He was meant to keep doing them over and over again .. as well as completing the assignments which introduced new material.

and yes.. he could sit on his bed and do all of this :D (and frequently did I might add)

a system in excel?? I thouhg it was all just databases :S thats what ours is...

By the frontpage, do you mean like a switchboard for a database? i.e. when you open the file, the interface that comes up and allows the user to do stuff e.g. click on a button which does so-and-so?

As salaamu alaykum!

Hope your all good!

Have any of you (old) people taken AS Level maths (during your youth) :p
I swear we have this dude who seriously might as well not teach, we dont even understand him, the only time i do, he's talking arabic!

can anyone suggest any good AS maths books?

salamu alaikum,

I actually teach A-level edexcel maths (on weekend) and the best book i would recommend is this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mathematics-Heinemann-Modular-London-level/dp/0435510975/sr=1-3/qid=1163702930/ref=sr_1_3/202-8096690-8699038?ie=UTF8&s=books

to ensure u get an A i would also recommend u do a lot of past exam papers.

also, if there is any specific questions u have feel free to post it and me or anyone else will answer it.

salaam,

pagool ladoo,

you need maths - without it, you would not be able to post on internet forum. in fact the internet wouldnt exist without maths. there wouldnt be a computer in existent without algebra. your watch, alarm clock, your microwave, your tv, your mp3 player, your mobile fone, your DLR train, your DVD, your UMMAH Forum, your airplane, your car, your bus, your road, your house - none of these things would be possible without maths.

think about it.

back to the original post; niqaabi get hold of past papers for at the past five years do all the questions at least twice and youre sorted. get hold of the books and you dont need a teacher.
