Fornication

[Al-Fateh]

English Yusuf Ali: [24:3]
Let no man guilty of adultery or fornication marry and but a woman similarly guilty, or an Unbeliever: nor let any but such a man or an Unbeliever marry such a woman: to the Believers such a thing is forbidden.

This is the tafsir of the verse from Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs


{ ٱلزَّانِي لاَ يَنكِحُ إِلاَّ زَانِيَةً أَوْ مُشْرِكَةً وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ لاَ يَنكِحُهَآ إِلاَّ زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌ وَحُرِّمَ ذٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ }



(The adulterer) from the people of the Book who admits his crime (shall not marry save an adulteress) from the slaves of the people of the Book (or an idolatress) from the slaves of the Arab idolaters, (and the adulteress none shall marry save an adulterer) from the people of the Book (or an idolater) from the Arab idolaters. (All that) marrying the slaves of the people of the Book and the slaves of Arab idolaters (is forbidden unto believers) this verse was revealed about a group among the Companions of the Prophet (pbuh) who wanted to marry some slaves from the people of the Book and Arab idolaters in Medina. These slaves were known adulteresses but these prophetic Companions wanted to marry them in order to win them over. When this verse was revealed they refrained from marrying them.

Tafsir al-Jalalayn

{ ٱلزَّانِي لاَ يَنكِحُ إِلاَّ زَانِيَةً أَوْ مُشْرِكَةً وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ لاَ يَنكِحُهَآ إِلاَّ زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌ وَحُرِّمَ ذٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ }


The fornicator shall not marry anyone but a fornicatress or an idolatress, and the fornicatress shall be married by none except a fornicator or an idolator, in other words, what is suitable for each of the two [for the purposes of marriage] is the above-mentioned; and that, namely, marrying of fornicators, is forbidden to believers, who are better [than those]. This was revealed when the poor among the Emigrants resolved to marry the wealthy whores of the idolaters, so that they [the women] would provide for them. Thus it is said that the prohibition applies specifically to them; but it is also said to apply in general; but it was abrogated by God's words: Marry off the spouseless among you [Q. 24:32].

adultery is when u are married but commiting it with someone other than ur marriage partner

Thats what i thought but i spoke to a brother who said its the same and i looked it up and i found no difference in definition.

Adultery - Voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a partner other than the lawful spouse.

Fornication - Sexual intercourse between partners who are NOT married to each other.

it means a fornicator who is married. :)
if the married fornicator has sexual intercourse with some1 other their lawful spouse, they are than considered to have also commited adultery. :)

haha.. funny guy. for example:

guy A is 20yr old n is not married. he has sex with his friend. They are both not married. Thus his act is considered fornication and NOT adultery.

Lets say that guy A is now MARRIED. He feels restless without his wife. So he has sex with his friend without his wife knowing. This act is called adultery and NOT fornication.

Lets say that guy A is now MARRIED. << (now. he is known as a married fornicator. cos he's married.) He feels restless without his wife. So he has sex with his friend without his wife knowing. This act is called adultery and NOT fornication. << As he has commited fornication earlier in his life and did adultery once he is married. he is known as a fornicator and an adulterer.

interesting, reason im question it is because this came up in fiqh and it stated "Married fornicator" not "Adulterer". But i understand what you are saying.

just an fyi, the verse has been aborgates by the verse 24:32 in the Holy Qur`an.

as a none muslim looking at your post and trying to understand your faith am i right in understanding what was just stated,if a single man has sex ,befor he is married ,with any women he can not marry a virgin.
