Salam Allaykom

Before I start, I don’t want immature people like Paula etc to reply to this topic. Unless she has something useful to say.

Anyway….

I’ve got a serious problem, which I’ve discovered while reading the Quran yesterday. It’s about eating meat that is not slaughtered for Allah’s name.
Frankly, my family are not religious. So they buy any kind of meat (except pork etc of course). My mother takes care of that side of business in the family(shopping, cooking etc), and she doesn’t seem to care!
Eating haram meat is a kind of Shirk! This has made me really scared, angry and even hateful towards my mother! There is no point talking to her about these things. My family have been unreligious for many years……they don’t even know I pray and go to the mosque! In my town there is a shop that orders for you halal meat from another city 1 hour away. So basically, there are not many shops in my town that sell halal meat.

Even saying Bismallah before I eat it is not going to make it halal, is it?

I have no idea what to do.

Salam Bro,

its not halaal for you unless its been slaughtered for you as prescribed by the Quran and sunnah. (Bismillah does not make it hallah, although i saw someone doing this once with a mig mac thingymabob)

you have the following options:

* make the hour long journey/order the meat yourself and stock it in your freezer
* Eat with Muslim friends/have them buy you meat when they buy it
* Go veggie for the meantime

on and resist being hateful towards your mother bro. be patients, its a part of your struggle.

and whos paula?

in additon, i really appreciate the your bravery in asking questions that may seem so obvious to others. good work bro  Muslims like myself take this level of knowledge for granted. May allah reward you immensely for your fears and woes inshallah and make this path an easy one for you to follow. :)

Masha'Allah sister *Eamaan* has covered it, if you can't get hold of the Halaal meat ..your only other option would be to refrain from eating the haraam meat.

Just order it from the halal shop and dont eat the meat your mum buys.
Will she listen if you tell her to order from the halal shop/stop buying haram meat?

to tell my mum things like that is simply not as easy as it sounds. I never ever paid attention to what she cooks and what she buys. And she dosen't know I'm a practising Muslim. It's just difficult, I can't explain it...but it is.
Alhamdolilah I just went out to the muslim shop and had my 'isha there.(it was niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!) But i will not be able to do it every time.:o It also dosen't help that I don't get on with my mum.

I think i will have to casualy tell her that.

May allah reward you immensely for your fears and woes inshallah and make this path an easy one for you to follow

Thank you very much. May Allah(swt) bless you too. And to Ibn-e-Muslim.:)

I think you should let ur parents know u are practising, maybe slowly introduce them to that but eventually they should know it. Perhaps u will be a good example and influence on them, esp as they are Muslim altho not practising, then its easier for them 2 practise than for a non muslim parent to embrace Islam. If your mum wont accept yet to buy the meat, you can go veggie for the time being... make sure to eat your fish and eggs and everything, you will be okay and it wont damage ur health and when you have chance to eat halal meat, grab the chance

Insha'allah I will make Du'a for Allah Ta'ala give you Taufiq on your situation Akhee Ameen:inlove:

When I first took shahadah my Umm was very supportive masha'allah but my Abu is really strong in his own belief and i had alot of problems with him BUT Al-humduillah Allah Ta'ala changed my situation alittle and he's coming around to the point of at least being respectful to me:D

I'm sharing my story with you to say this through the mercy of Allah Ta'ala anything can change including your situation so don't get discourage just make Du'a & have tawakkul in Allah that he'll guide you to an alternative option Ameen:)

There was someone who's family were sort of practising, though when the HMC issue arose in London, their family continued to buy the 'halal meat' from the halal shops where the meat could have in fact been stunned!

So this person refrained from eating anything in the house for a few months and relied on sandwiches; then after some time and patience, there came some gentle persuasion from those that were not so close to home, and their parents took heed. Now ALL the meat brought into the house is HMC standard, Alhamdulillah.
