Before you discredit me as a someone who would condemn the Islamic faith in blind ignorance, I respectfully ask for an explanation as to some of those aspects of the Muslin culture which I find distasteful and incredibly out of step with modern societal values.

For example, why is a woman who has not covered herself completely in public responsible for the behaviour of those around her? If she accosted by a male, then she has lured him to his downfall? Is he not to blame for his lecherous thoughts and actions? I would submit that we are only responsible for our own actions, and not those of others.

Why does a man have rights over and above those of a woman? Why must she be escorted in public, yet he can go wherever he pleases? Why must she cook and clean for him? Does the very small difference of chromosomes, XY opposed to XX, make him incapable of contributing as much to household duties and child rearing responsibilities as her? Why must she be subservient to his desires and wishes?

Why are men and women not equal, or born with the same rights and responsibilities as each other, in Allah's eyes?
